Form Fill Seal Packaging Engineer
Role Overview:
Provide Form Fill Seal (FFS) expertise across diverse equipment applications to drive continuous improvement and enable new packaging formats through machine design and reliability.
Accountabilities:
1. Partner with Business Units, Operations, Sourcing, Suppliers ,and Universities to identify and develop enabling technologies that address customer and consumer need.
2. Provide packaging engineering expertise to influence equipment suppliers and project teams to design for FFS system reliability.
Champion global FFS technology development and infuse into GMI project designs.
3. Collaborate with packaging R/D, G-Tech, Quality, and Operations to provide technical solutions that optimize the entire supply chain.
4. Provide technical guidance on new package testing and machine evaluations.
5. Accelerate the performance glidepath strategies on FFS platforms through technical leadership and engagement.
6. Provide advantaged technical solutions which insulate GMI from competitive responses.
Required Skills:
1. Deep technical knowledge of machine motion, component design and functionality, mechanical design, and unit operation centerlining.
2. Strong understanding of materials interface with equipment motion to effectively design thermo-form, fill and seal unit operations.
3. Experienced with flexible and rigid materials manufacturing, and converting systems (injection molding, thermoforming, film conversions).
4. Application of designed experimentation to assess quality and capability of machine design.
5. Demonstrated ability to apply statistical tools, critical problem solving, and decision making to determine root cause and solution.
6. Ability to lead and influence work teams with a collaborative approach.
7. Familiarity with plant and maintenance operations.
8. 70% Travel capability.
Education:
B.S. Engineering degree, preferably Mechanical, Electrical or equivalent in ABET-accredited program
Experience Level:
Minimum 5 years
